Awesomest Things of 2011

In no particular order (and with no real rhyme or reason), here are my awesomest things of 2011.

1. This website.
Listen, Pinterest is awesome. If you’re one of those people that doesn’t like Pinterest (or more likely doesn’t understand it) can you please call me? I’d like to properly explain it to you. If you think it’s just a place to catalog the things you can’t have (dream husband, dream house, dream home cooked meals, dream wardrobe and the dream disposable income to afford it all) you are right. If liking Pinterest means wallowing in fantasy, I’m totally ok with that.

2. This video.
If you haven’t seen Robyn’s video for Call Your Girlfriend, I feel sorry for you (unless you are my grandmother in which case… I’m not sure it’s for you, Nannie). This was the hit of my summer. Why this song wasn’t more mainstream popular is beyond me. Even if you’ve seen this video 2,000 times this year, watch it again. And then watch her perform it live on SNL. Robyn makes it ok to wear fuzzy sweaters, wacky print leggings and platform tennies while doing the electric slide. I salute you, Robyn.

3. This one time when I ran a half marathon.
Do you remember when I use to run? That was fun. Not. I ran the Disney half in the very beginning of 2011 and if I didn’t have the medal to prove it, I might not believe it really happened. Good God, I ran 13.1 miles at one time. Go me! I’m thinking about maybe considering the possibility of if someone who is maybe me would run another half marathon in 2012.

4. This color.
I love you, gold. I want to marry you under a gold canopy while wearing a gold dress with gold shoes. I want to move into a gold house with gold walls and gold trinkets while we eat gold leafed brownies (that’s a for real thing). And then when we feel that the time is right, I want to have your gold babies. Too far?

5. This membership.
Starbucks is a saucy minx. It tempts me with its abundant locations, its caffeine, its wonderful aroma and its red cups at the holidays. I want to spend $5 a day just to be in its presence. I’m a sucker so I signed up for their membership program (which just means I registered a gift card). Now I’m gold level status and have a special card with my name on it. Did I mention that it’s called the GOLD level status and that the card is GOLD?

6. This wedding, and this one, and this one and this upcoming one.
My brother got married to a very pretty girl who is now my sister. One of my best friends got married to a tall man who doesn’t mind my aggressive hugs. And a sweet girl let me help coordinate her big day. It was the year of the wedding! Even though going single to a wedding sometimes makes you want to rip out your eye balls out and stomp on them (I kid), love was all around this year. I’m so excited to help Carpool Amber get hitched in 2012.

7. This album and this concert.
I’ve spoken before about my love of Bon Iver. I saw them live in August shortly after their latest awesome album was released . Hearing Skinny Love performed live will go down in my history book as one of the most magical things ever. I thought I could fly after that show.

8. This book
Reading is great, right? I did some series reading this year including Harry Potter and the Hunger Games. Also I did some re-reading of my favorites including A Separate Peace and the Twilight Books. I then got out of the young adult section of Barnes and Noble and read A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: What I Learned While Editing My Life which is soul-filling greatness from Donald Miller. My list for next year includes The Happiness Project and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

9. This blog, and this one and this one.
If there was a job where all you did was read blogs, I would be head hunted for it. I added a lot to my Google Reader this year but my favorites are by my friends. Ashley is brilliant, Erin is my role model and Miss Bennet is so smart.

10. This sports team
How about them Cowboys? I love Oklahoma State University even when their sports teams lose. So when our football team beat OU, won the Big 12 Championship and got its first BCS berth this year, I nearly peed myself. Actually I probably did pee myself but I was too busy running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off to notice.

Honorable Mentions of 2011
Finding Sports Night on Netflix, crafting, skip-bo and chevron.

Least Awesomest Things of 2011
People who steal things, the “Keep Calm and Do Something Else On” thing, running and the BCS.

  3. So I legitimately skipped lunch in the kitchen so I could catch up on my favorite blogs that I sadly neglected over the holidays. I cannot believe that my little blog made this list! I’m SMILING so freaking big right now.
